CHASING MR STARSHINE by Simon Jackson

The police refuse to continue providing personal protection for Wallace Starshine – much to his disgust. After all, he’s a Very Important Person, with a string of chart-toppers to his credit, and a faithful fan-base in the Benelux countries. But the cops don’t even believe that he’s really the victim of a stalker.

His agent, Milton Mowbray, has worse news: Wallace Starshine just isn’t famous any more. There are no gigs lined up and no recording contract. Wallace thinks it’s time to make a come-back. Well, not really a come-back, because in his mind Wallace Starshine has never been away.

And there’s still the problem of the stalker. At least he has one loyal fan in this country! If he can find her and reward her devotion, his career might be on the up again. But who is she – and where is she?

Wallace’s quest, reluctantly assisted by Milton, actually has a happy ending, though it’s not at all the one he had in mind. After suffering assault, humiliation and even arrest, Wallace Starshine discovers who his real fans are.

Paul Gough plays Wallace Starshine, Keith Flack plays Milton Mowbray, and Jean Donald plays Patricia Knowles. Also in the cast are Jean Baker, Scott Peters, Darren Egan, Jackie Lewis, Carol Williams, Marian Neville, Angela Neville, Jan Andrews, Tony Hine, Angela Howard and Beryl Maidment.

The play was written by Simon Jackson, who also composed and performed the songs. Technical presentation was by John Rhodes, and the producers were Angela Neville and Jackie Lewis.
