Verve Jazz Masters

Jazz Masters is a series of mainly single artist compilations released by Polygram/Verve between 1994 and 1996. The compilations collect material that was originally released on Verve or on one of the labels that became part of the Polygram group. The 20th and 60th releases in the series were various artist collections.

    Thank you!

I've been a very busy boy over last couple of days downloading all of these. I've probably got about a 1/3 of these CDs but to have the whole lot in a collection is brilliant. Thank you again.

Norman Granz is owed a lot - his civil rights and equality positions are a matter of public record and regularly talked about whenever you read anything about him. What isn't (from my memory EVER mentioned) is the fact that he was a true audio pioneer. I'm not talking about the quality of the playing of the people that recorded for him - that's largely a given - but even his very earliest have superb sound quality. For easy, obvious example - the best sounding recordings of Charlie Parker are his Verve and Clef records. His Dial recordings are probably regarded as the best of his career - although With Jazz was his best selling album, but they've very very much "medium wave" to Norman Granz' "FM" recordings. Granz was right up there and out there with the very very best sounding recordings from very very early on. A real unsung jazz hero for many reasons.

    Thanks again, Bob
