  • You say the name of the song is ...Passing By....did your grandfather sing, or play an instrument on this recording ?
Also was it part of a presentation from an established orchestra or group that I could search ?
ANY information will make it easier to track it down.

P.S. What name would he have used when he recorded it?

        • Donna G,
I am having trouble finding the song Passing By. I have found 1...here it is. Can you see if this might be the one and it will give me at least some clue.
Also do you know what opera was performed and if possibe a more specific date.
Here are the lyrics to the one i found can you find out if this is the one.

          Passing By
(Robert Herrick, 1592-1674; melody by Edward Purcell)

There is a lady sweet and kind
Was never face so pleased my mind,
I did but see her passing by
And yet I love her till I die!

Her gestures, motions and her smile
          Her wit, her voice, my heart beguile;
Beguile my heart, I know not why
And yet I love her till I die!

Cupid is winged, and doth range
Her country; so my heart doth change.
But change the earth, or change the sky
Yet will I love her till I die!
  • Donna G.........Tell us the name of the song & approximate date it aired. Any info would help. I'll see if I can find it on Limewire, but I must tell you
it will probably be difficult to find. Best wishes to your Grandfather. I hope someone can find this. I'd like to hear it myself!!! Jim
    • Hi James i am told it was between 1954-1956 and the song was called passing by. Thank you for your reply, it means a LOT Donna
      • Hello there,
I located a song by that name on an album called First Love Songs From the British Isles by Bryn Terfel. The album can be ordered from www.passionato.com. It consists of 16 tracks, excerpts of which, including Passing By, can be listened to. The excerpt sure has an operatic sound. You have to sign up for a free account first. You might be able to download just the one song instead of the whole album.
        Hope this helps.
