The Cincinnati Old Time Radio Convention will be held Friday and Saturday, May 7 and 8. Guests will be: Bob Hastings, who played Archie (of Archie and Jughead) in the radio series, and later Captain Binghamton's idiot helper Elroy Carpenter on the TV series McHale's Navy. Rosemary Rice, who was Betty on the Archie show, and also the title character in the early TV series I Remember Mama. Rosemary was a real journeyman radio actress, appearing in thousands of shows. Esther Geddes, who was in the children's radio show Let's Pretend. All three of these stars are friendly and gracious, and they enjoy mingling with the attendees all weekend. Unlike other conventions, the stars are not separated from the audience here. It costs just $10 per day to attend, and you will be invited to audition for radio parts if you're interested, and a chance to act on stage with the above-named stars. If you've never been to this convention before, trust me - you will love it! It is very relaxed and easy-going. Besides the radio plays and special programs about OTR, there will be dozens of dealers selling old radio shows, general nostalgia paraphernalia, and many other wonderful items. And this year, we're adding a Friday night OTR Trivia Contest that anyone can enter free, with some nice prizes. If you can make it, look me up! I'm the father of the girl in pigtails wearing the shirt that says JACK JACK JACK on the front, and BENNY BENNY BENNY on the back. • I wish I could attend, but unfortunately I have other obligations like work. I hope you will write a blog post and tell us about everything that went on. Would like to hear all about it.

    • Robert, my daughter Karen writes a pretty detailed report about each convention.

      Check some of these out:

I think you'll enjoy the Karen Gets Hugged page.

  • Hey Dan, This is Hal Sampson's son. Dad says to tell ya that we'll see ya there at the show. :-)

    • Thank you, Val! We're packing right now, and should hit Cincinnati around 9:00 Friday morning!
