Lynne Truss's Christmas Rant

A seasonal and characteristically icy blast from the author of the bestselling Eats, Shoots and Leaves - and the mistress of "Bah, Humbug!"

Defender of the civilised world and grande dame of comic writing, Lynne Truss steps in to save us from everything that is wearing, frustrating or downright vile about Christmas. At the time of going to press her producer was not certain whether this would be a tirade against the unrelenting demands of Christmas itself, crafted in the form of that worst ever use of the English language, the "round robin" letter, or, better still, a rant against said round robin, a ghastly excuse for people to descend into unadulterated smugness, boastfulness and way too much detail on the intimate details and "achievements" of their nearest and dearest.

What can be guaranteed is that it will be funny: there's nothing like a bit of Christmas-bashing to raise any flagging spirits. Go for it. Ms Truss.
