Old Time Radio, Nostalgia

been trying to find the serials we use listen to during and just after the second world war.it was better then the tv is now.kept us on our toes, like (meet the huggets.) --(pc 49)--( this is the man in black) (perry mason)little (liver pills -bing sings.were he sang songs which you dont hear today) (the black and white minstral show)
then there was all the classic films and plays.please please see if you can bring these back.there are many many british old age pensioners as well as heroes of the second world war who would love to hear these once again.and bring back memories when our mothers and fathers were alive and well.and the days when we could leave our front doors open and know nobody would pimch anything.when we new everybody in our street .and the food was all on ration but we use to share it with our neighbour.those were the days.so when we listen to these old archives it brings back so many good memories as well.so please please see if yyou can find these jewels of radio.if you know of any website were i can download some of these please let me know.thank you again.from bob dunford.and wife kathleen.

Hi Robert and Kathleen:

Sadly a lot of BBC programmes were lost, discarded, sent to the dustbin or reel to reel tape was re-used during the war and afterwards.

The BBC has recently asked for home recordings of programmes. So here's hoping that some of the 1950s, 60s, 70s and 80s will surface. I doubt that we will ever see too many home recordings from the 1940s or earlier. Equipment was too expensive, the war, etc. If any recordings did exist, most of those who would have recorded may have passed on or their families may not have known the significance of all those recordings.

Here are some excellent links:

BBC Message Boards - http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/mbbbc7/ - You can make requests for shows on this Board.

The next two websites will provide you with up-to-date radio listings for BBC Radio 7 and 4.

Radio 7 Newsletter - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio7/newsletter/
BBC Radio 4 Newsletter - http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/newsletter/

Also, check out Robert's posting on using the "Radiodownloader" for recording current programmes. Several old shows are repeated on BBC Radio 7.

Happy listening,

katy

To kathleen and Robert
I agree with Katy, It is sad that many of these shows have been lost. I have passed on to the group all BBC programs from that era that I have had the pleasure to obtain. When I come in contact with more they will also be passed on to Times Past. Try this link: http://randsesotericotr.podbean.com/ Rand collects OTR, but he is concerned mainly with the original Transcription Records. I seem to remember some, but not a lot of BBC. Aside from what Katy has said I cannot tell you more except that I will keep my eyes ope on Usenet and I will request in the groups. Who knows, I might have some luck and if I do you will be the second to know---------Rick

Here is an interesting blog that may have some older BBC content.

http://bigaudiodrama.blogspot.com/ Have not had time to look at all available for download, but if someone does find something interesting and downloads some shows, perhaps can post them here at TimesPast for others also.

When you click on a page, the link to the download server and the password is at top of that particular page.

No emails

Has anybody experienced this problem? I have not received emails from TimesPast in over 2 weeks now. I have been receiving emails on a regular basis announcing posts of new programs, and other group actions, but suddenly, the emails stopped coming in. Sure, I can go to the site and look for myself to see what's new, but I miss the emails.
If anybody else has had this problem please let me know. I love this site, but have felt left out of the loop lately.

PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!

Hi I really need help so if anyone can that would be great!! My grandfather who is 82 recorded an opera song for the bbc back in the late 1950's. Uploading stuff

Hi all

I'm new to the site, and was wondering about a couple of things

Firstly I have quite a bit of Paul Temple stuff, I was going to upload it ( I dont know how to do this) but I was wondering what the legal standing of it was..They are all BBC productions but as I am sure you know they have been recently released. If I was able to upload them ( Is there a section here that can help me?) would it be legal?

Cheers
